  our first picture on the road. multnomah falls (left), the tallest in oregon, in the Columbia Gorge (that's Washington on the left of the river, and Oregon on the right of the columbia river - right>). |

  the last of the fog over the gorge drifts off, we cut through washington and meander into idaho. |

  time for lunch - a picnic with a view of some lake and a bunch of kickass bluffs. |

  after only about 50 minutes of driving, we cross into montana. |
|
|
|
 |
  just over the border, we roll into whitehall, and we hit my favorite RV campsite in the world, the Pipestone Campground, where they offer a stilted outdoor hottub with a view of the snow-capped mountains (right) we'd cross tomorrow. they also had an ice cream social (bring your own spoon), a pool, A MODEM HOOKUP we didnt even use, and, yes, that's a tetherball post (left) next to the seesaws. |

  "our lady of the rockies" outside of butte, montana - huge statue of the "virgin" mary ontop some crazy bluff-mountains. i catch some groovy clouds in the rearview mirror. |

  we cross into south dakota - a state josh hasnt been in before. its beautiful. we love this country. on the right is our first view of devil's tower on the horizon. |

  after spending the night at the day's end campground in STURGIS, SD, we cruise up to the crazy horse monument. (you can see where they've drawn out the horse's head!) |

 we saw goodbye to the snow-capped mountains and drive deeper into the badlands. |

 |
  mount rushmore, where they piped the national anthem, yankee doodle, and grand ol' flag over speakers so loud you could barely talk, and some 16 year olf nerd dressed as abe lincoln told us about the blacklight t shirts in the gift shop. ugh. |

  a little more wildlife on our way out of the park... we saw this mountain goat on the side of the road. when another car drove past, he hiked about 20 feet straight up this cliff and stared us all down.
